Page 17 Which brows are best for me?
Permanent makeup has come a long way since its inception. Originally, an eyebrow tattoo was exactly that and employed similar techniques, equipment and inks. The first eyebrow tattoos were essentially dark brown or solid black lines, shaped like eyebrows, but not very natural looking. This lead to a harsh look, often with overly accentuated arches, thick lines and dramatic wispy ends.
That changed when hand-held devices were introduced. Small multi-speed, digital machines allowed therapists to do delicate, detailed work; blend colours, shape brows, correct small imperfections, fill gaps in sparse areas without affecting natural hair, while still adding touches of colour to provide better brow definition. The inks were replaced with pigments that healed to a softer more natural look.
And now we have Micro-blading, it is by no means a new invention and has been around for many years, however it has been developed and refined over the years and the new technique provides the most natural looking brows to date. Strokes are crisp and defined and blend perfectly with existing hair.
Both machine and micro-blading require a top up 4 to 6 weeks after the initial treatment, this is when the main difference shows. When doing a touch up with micro-blading, the same strokes can be passed over again more precisely leaving a crisp line. However, with the machine method, because it punctures the skin repeatedly to implant the colour, strokes become wider and blur slightly.
Micro-blading does not last as long as the machine method but will simply fade, meaning if you no longer want to continue with retouches you can just let them disappear. Machine eyebrows last much longer and as with a traditional tattoo
will continue to blur as they fade meaning all brows will end up as a powder brow and retouches are much more necessary as the colour of the brows will also change as the body breaks down the pigment.
I perform many corrections using micro- blading over old machine brows to refresh the colour and restore a natural appearance.
