Kalang Advertising Limited – Papua New Guinea joins ABU as Additional Full Member

alang Advertising Limited is a subsidiary of Telikom PNG Ltd. Since its incorporation in 1987, it has strived to provide news, information and music to the entire nation and is continuing to meet its challenges from today’s technological changes and commercial competitiveness.


It has nearly 95% radio broadcasting coverage of the entire nation and strategically committed to cover 100% of the entire nation through radio in the years ahead. Kalang Advertising recently introduced a new radio station known as Hot97FM. This is to cater for the teenage to young adults who like music from the 90’s to the current hits. This new station is considered to be the hottest music station in PNG.


The management of Kalang Advertising Limited ensures that the people of Papua New Guinea receive up to date news, information, music and current events every day through radio broadcasting. They have also worked on new projects to support the music industry in recording of songs on cassettes and compact discs for local artists which will be available in the near future.


John Mong (pix), a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) is Chief Executive Officer of Kalang Advertising Limited (trading as FM100 & HOT97FM) and he is the serving interim committee Chairman of RMCN Micro Credit Scheme.


John is also a Board member of Media Council Papua New Guinea (MCPNG) and the National Management Team Chairman of Reformation Ministries & Churches Network (PNG) INC.

kilometre area, Nauru is the smallest state in the South Pacific and third smallest state by area in the world. The country is a member of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Nations, the Asian Development Bank and the Pacific Islands Forum. Nauru also participates in the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

Nauru Media of the Department of Telecommunication & Media of Nauru Island has recently joined ABU as an Additional Full member. Its offices are located in Yaren district. Nauru Media was first established in 1991 as Nauru Television. In 1998 both the TV station and radio station were combined together under one department and established as Nauru Media. Then in 2009 the local newspaper (Mwinen KO) roughly translated “Let’s Talk about It” was introduced and is now up to its 55th Edition. It also holds an archive


library of old radio vinyl record and audio cassettes dated as far back as 1968, year where the island became independent.


News and stories for the News Bulletin are pre-recorded and played on air four times a day on a daily basis for both TV and radio. Nauru Television has only one available channel which is airing the Free to Air (FTA) programme, Australia Plus. TV and Radio coverage is transmitted and received island wide.


There are currently 33 staff/employees throughout the three arms of Media – newspaper, radio and television and it is the only Media outlet on the island which is government owned. The department will be moving to a new location situated on the Western side of the island soon. The vision of Nauru Media is to be fair and to provide independent television, radio and newspaper information and services to the general community as well as the Government of Nauru.
