Highly enriching and creative ABU-IPPTAR-RTM Reality Show workshop conducted in Malaysia

BU in collaboration with RTM-Malaysia and IPPTAR ran a two-day workshop from 9-10 June 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 31 participants mostly from


RTM, Astro, Media Prima, Malaysia, MediaCorp Singapore, RTB Brunei and Forever Group Myanmar attended the workshop conducted by two Korean experts – Mr Kim Kwangsoo, Chief Producer of Entertainment at KBS and Mr Yu Sung Chan, Independent Writer of reality and entertainment programme. In his opening speeches, Mr Beniko Tatsuhiro, ABU Director of Programming and Ms Ramlah Jalee, Head of International Relations at RTM talked about the importance of Reality Show in TV programming. Mr Beniko said that reality shows are becoming more and more “killer” content in our region. They have huge audiences and also they make quite a lot of money as a result. For Ms Jalee, today several programmes are produced in the reality realm, not only musical or gameshows, but also programmes promoting information and education. “Everything is more fun when we feel it and we absorb information when it is fun”, she added.


The participants who were mainly producers, acript writers and content developers of their respective organisations got a clear idea about the conception and production of Reality Shows. Different topics were discussed including: What

All participants were awarded a Certificate of Participation handed over to them by Dato’ Adilah Shek Omar, Director General of IPPTAR. In her closing remarks, she expressed her satisfaction that the workshop gave the opportunity to not only Malaysian RTM participants but also to other broadcast producers and script writers from other neighbouring countries to benefit from the new skills acquired in reality show production. Dato’ Adilah also expressed her hope that such kind of training would help RTM one day to win an Award at the ABU Prize Award Ceremony.

The two trainers said they were impressed by the level of all participants who contributed a a lot to the workshop. For both of them, Reality Show is becoming so important in today’s TV programming content since “it shares a common ground between people, celebrities and the audience.” One of the participants RTB Brunei Script Writer, Sahaidilfitri Hj Abd Rani, said that the workshop was very enriching and he will propose as soon as possible new Reality Show programmes to his organisation. Another participant, Unminder Kaur, Content Developer/Researcher at ASTRO said she will use all what she acquired during the workshop to promote Small and Medium Enterprises among women in Malaysia.
