While the nation crumbled with the death of over 8,500 people, with hundreds of others unaccounted for, the media in Nepal had its own share of struggle to cover, despite the heartbreak of losing loved ones to the disaster. But in the face of the crises, the station has stood its ground.
From the streets, it has now moved on to a temporary shelter where the Kantipur Publications press stands. Although basic amenities are lacking, the energy and commitment of the team is still intact.
ABU and ACORAB – Nepal team up on DRR

n 26 May, one month after the devastating earthquake in Nepal, delegates from ACORAB, the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters in
Nepal, who is also an Associate Member of the ABU, paid a visit to ABU Secretariat to discuss further partnership between ACORAB and ABU.
Among the delegates were Mr RC Lamichhane, Executive Director, and Mr Govinda Devkota, Secretary- General of ACORAB. ABU Secretary General, Dr Javad Mottaghi, offered them to implement ABU in- country workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in Nepal. ABU Director of Programming,

Mr Tatsuhiro Beniko, also offered them to speak at Radio Working Party Group Meeting and Programme Committee at coming ABU General Assembly in Istanbul of their experience on the disaster coverage and of the role of community radio before, during and after the earthquake.
“If we don’t inform during crisis, what use is the media? Media is a watchdog. Our job is to bridge the gap between people and the government so that the authorities can respond. And we’ve fulfilled that duty as a team,” says Pathak.
