New Projects discussed at ABU Programme Bureau Meeting

he 1st ABU Programme Bureau (PB) for this year met on 31 May in Yangon, Myanmar, back to


back with RadioAsia 2015 Conference and associated meetings. The PB is a consultation body to Programme Committee (PC) and Programme Department, and its establishment was first proposed and approved at last PC in Macau in October 2014.


The meeting started with opening remarks by the PB/PC chair, Mr Song Jaeheon from KBS, Korea, followed by welcome remarks by ABU Secretary General, Dr Javad Mottaghi. The Director of ABU Programme Department (PD), Mr Tatsuhiro Beniko, briefed on the programming activities which PD organised after Macau GA


and also reported on the interim result of the Programme Activities Survey. According to Mr Beniko, most of the activities PD had organised for the past year were evaluated “good” or “very good” by members.


Then participating PB members exchanged their views and ideas on how PD should do to involve more members to current programming activities.


In the afternoon session, discussion focused on new innovative ideas and proposals put forward by members. Among these proposals/suggestions are: NHK’s withdrawal from Digista teens secretariat from 2016 onwards and proposal of anti-bullying projects.


Prasar Bharati/DD’s proposal to host 1st ABU Dance Festival/Contest to be held in November 2016. CCTV’s suggestion to form Task Group to look into the possibility of launching ABU Content Market. Also PB members discussed various suggestions/new initiative ideas from KBS, MNB, Prasar Bharati and RTM.


Participating PB members to the meeting were; AIR-India, EBS-Korea, NHK-Japan, KBS-Korea and MRTV- Myanmar attended the meeting as an observer. CCTV-China, MNB-Mongolia and RTM-Malaysia joined the discussion via Skype.


The second Programme Bureau meeting is expected to be held during Istanbul GA, this October.


China National Radio will be hosting the 2016 RAC & RSF in Beijing

hina National Radio - CNR has agreed to host the 2016 ABU Radio Asia Conference and


Radio Song Festival in Beijing. This will be the first major ABU event to be hosted by CNR.


Taking the opportunity of being in Beijing last May, ABU Secretary-General, Dr Javad Mottaghi met with Mr Wang Qui, Director- General, China National Radio. Were also present at the meeting, the President and Vice President of CNR. The discussions focused on the organisation of RadioAsia Conference and Radio Song Festival.
