REGATTA
REGATTA FETE As usual this summer ‘s Kingswear Regatta will aim to provide a fun-filled weekend for local families, whilst at the same time trying to raise money for local charities and organisations. This year the main aim is to try and raise awareness of, and money for, the wonderful Rowcroft Hospice, which has provided essential support for many local people. There will be a stall supporting Rowcroft at the Regatta Fete on Sunday, July 26th
.
ROWING RACES An essential part of Regatta are the rowing races that take place each day on Waterhead Creek. There are rowing races for all tastes; family races, pairs and fours – some good-natured and some more competitive – enter on the day races and invitation races. The heats generally take place on the Saturday and finals on the Sunday. The rowing is organised by Kingswear Rowing Club and the Regatta helps to raise money to maintain their boats. The Club has some 100 members and tries to offer opportunities for all ages and abilities to have a go at rowing, either in Waterhead Creek or on the River Dart. Go to
www.kingwearrc.co.uk for more information. Rowing prize medals are kindly being sponsored this year by Rockfish.
AN ENORMOUS THANK YOU As set-up costs rise each year Kingswear Regatta is a traditional village event which can only take place because lots of local individuals and businesses donate their time and money. Since 2006 the Regatta has raised over £28,000 for local charities and organisations as a result of this amazing generosity and hard work. The Regatta Committee would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who contributes in any way. It is hoped this year to also be able to donate small amounts to the Froward Point generator project, the Jubilee Park Playground Appeal and towards training local individuals to use the village difibrillator.
SPONSOR A DUCK FOR
ROWCROFT All monies raised from the Duck Race this year will be donated to Rowcroft.
Dartmouth Holiday Homes are generously sponsoring the cash prizes – First Prize £100 / Second £50 and two other prizes of £25 each.
For £1 you can ‘sponsor’ your own duck (or why not sponsor an entire flotilla …?! ) – Ducks on sale in Kingswear Post Office, the Village Shop and local pubs, the Ship Inn and Steam Packet. If there are any left they will also be on sale at Jubilee Park over Regatta weekend.
