DART NOTES
BLIND CUPID by Max Brandt Former Dartmouth resident, By The Dart writer
and one of the driving forces behind Dartmouth Shakespeare Week, Max Brandt, has published his first novel – Blind Cupid. Set in and around the South Hams, Blind Cupid has been variously described as ‘dark and chilling’, ‘utterly convincing’ and ‘an intelligently written crime thriller’. Blind Cupid centres on a group of young people living in care, an enforcer who works for a local criminal and a police officer whose partner recently committed suicide. All are caught up in a tangled and violent web, at the centre of which sits a maniac, preying on them all. Written with
care, with believable characters that are not what they seem and a set of circumstances too horrible to believe, the story is lifted to a higher intellectual realm by the clever ploy of using allegory to compare Greek legend and Dickens with different scenarios. Blind Cupid can be purchased via Max’s website
(
www.maxbrandt.co.uk), Waterstones, Amazon or, for an electronic rendition, the publisher’s site at (www.
magicoxygen.co.uk).
NEAR STRETE A new section of the South West Coast Path opens between Strete and Strete Gate. This new section not only moves the Coast Path off a busy road, but also allows walkers to experience previously unseen beautiful views along Slapton Beach towards Start Point. Jonathan Dimbleby, Patron of the SWCP, officially opens the path on the 9th July.
