SHAKESPEARE WEEK
All photographs show the 2014 production - Taming of the Shrew
WorldWide Flavours, locally sourced.
There’ll also be a group of stunning young dancers, a handful of fabulous local children and the added expertise of Pineapple Dance-trained and West End performer and choreographer Suzie Boyle to add to the magic.
Jill and Lynne wanted to focus on the fun throughout
rehearsals. “Our aim is to create a world for the characters to live in - and then fill it with real people who are flawed and funny. We love to laugh at ourselves and always will. Shakespeare’s genius was that he could spot what makes us tick and weave all these great characters together so brilliantly”.
The central character Falstaff is larger than life in every sense and sits at the heart of this comedy. Playing the part of Falstaff is Max Brandt, fresh from his fantastic performance as Fagin in KATS’ production of “Oliver!”. Max revealed “It is, without a doubt, the most daunting challenge, in terms of character, that I have ever encountered. Falstaff is probably the most well-known Shakespearean character and although more people KNOW of him than have actually SEEN a portrayal, it strikes me that everyone THINKS they know who and how he is. And trying to please all the people, all of the time, is pretty huge! So I’m not even going to try; I just hope to get hold of the spirit of the man and dump him into the 20th century!”
In the title roles are Shaunagh Radcliffe and Gina
Carter. Both have given formidable performances with The Inn Theatre previously and both make worthy opponents for Falstaff. Shaunagh commented, “The Merry Wives of Windsor - what can I say? It really is a hoot and I love my character Alice Ford who, in collusion with her best friend Meg, stirs up quite a commotion or two! Jill’s idea of setting the play in 1954 has worked brilliantly: the comedy is as relevant in the second Elizabethan Age as it was in the first. There are so many great characters and goings-on it cannot fail but to make you laugh out loud.”
