Chamber welcomes delegation
» Visitors from Lebanon take home a wealth of knowledge about Glasgow
Glasgow Chamber recently welcomed a delegation from The Chamber Of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon (CCIA-BML). Visiting the city were Rabih
Sabra, Director General of the Chamber; Hana Nehme, Director of Human Resources; and Dory Abou Saab, IT Manager. Representing more than
14,000 Lebanese businesses,
the CCIA-BML is composed of members from the two districts of Beirut and Mount Lebanon, which make up around 70 per cent of the businesses operating in Lebanon. Three days of presentations,
talks and networking were set up for the delegation, ensuring they took home a wealth of knowledge about Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, its membership and the economic make-up of our city.

Chamber completes survey on Living Wage
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has completed a survey of its members on their views of the Living Wage. The survey was done following a
decision by Glasgow Chamber’s Council of Directors to seek the views given the breadth and diversity of businesses and organisations in the membership. Stuart Patrick, Chief Executive of
Glasgow Chamber, said: “Throughout the financial crisis we have consistently seen unemployment, particularly youth unemployment, as the most important labour market issue to tackle – and we still do. “And we have taken up the challenge
set by Glasgow City Council Leader Gordon Matheson at the State of the City Economy Conference that it was in all our
interests to tackle poverty in the city and that the Living Wage is a measure that can tackle in-work poverty. “Hence your Chamber’s decision to
conduct a careful review of the issues, to understand the impact that the Living Wage could have on the city’s economy, its business base and individual businesses.” The survey included detailed questions on how a Living Wage would impact businesses; the numbers of employees on or near the minimum wage and in workplaces where differentials are key to the pay structure; and what impact there would be on wider reward schemes such as pensions, bonuses, staff discount schemes and career development training.
