and adult moose across northern Ontario, beginning on the Saturday closest to October 22. Outside of this two-week hunt, calf moose could NOT be harvested. Hunting for an adult moose would still be permitted for the remainder of the open season with a valid moose licence.


Proposed for 2016 is a delay by


one week to the start of resident and non-resident moose hunting seasons across much of northern Ontario. It remains to be seen if this calf protection plan will serve to curtail a sliding moose herd in the north. Across the river in Quebec, management officials made the decision, nearly 20 years ago, to protect cow moose on an alternating year basis. The results have been very positive overall, including zones in Northern Quebec. Is Ontario targeting the wrong animal for protection? Only time will tell.
