SWITZERLAND Searching for the King’s Highway JOHN SWITZER It’s touring time again. The air is sweet,

the shadows stretch across the road, and the hum of the tires on dry asphalt is music to our ears. There’s a hint of anticipation in the air as we wander off, not knowing where we would go or who we might meet.

post office with its original counter and safe and worn wood finishes. The basement door was open. We glanced down to see the walls chock-a-block with all the fasteners you could ever use, lovingly separated on their handmade antiquated shelving.

old stone farm houses and disused gigantic loose hay barns when we bumped into Brockville. Brockville is a gracious old city with lots

We love stopping at the Finucan

General Store to rediscover this last bastion of friendly 19th

century merchandising. As usual, we wandered about the store – as had 20 BOUNDER MAGAZINE

of period stone edifices, wide avenues and loads of history. While driving down by the river of this old sea port, we found Bud’s on the Bay restaurant. I’ve often frequented its great patio that overlooks a marina, but who knew that it is also a wonderful breakfast
