of age. Glasses or contact lenses can mitigate the issue. There’s even pricey laser eye surgery that can help, though it’s not 100% effective. As it turned out, the app solved my issue. In fact, my eyesight is actually pretty good. A bit trickier at night or for long distances where things have a fuzzy tinge. When driving on dark roads without glasses, I can’t be entirely sure if the figure ahead is Bambi’s long lost dad or a wayward raccoon so I slow down anyway. I wear glasses from time to
time, like in movie theatres or at performances. But society’s marketing machine has us running to buy new lenses and funky designer rims from Versace and Armani. (They also make decent suits, by the way, in case you need one to match your new eyewear.) Then there’s the newest syndrome,
as if we don’t have enough. It’s called Computer Vision Syndrome or CVS, because we also need more acronyms. Shockingly, if you stare at a computer screen for long periods, you will strain your eyes. You will become tired and unable to distinguish between a domestic beer and an import, at least by sight. A similar problem occurs if you stare at an onion (OVS) or Don Cherry’s suit (DCVS). So staring at miniscule numbers on
gadgets in order to focus long enough to read them has probably strained my eyes and caused who knows how much harm. I worry about it because lately, when in argument mode, I’m often being told, “You don’t really see the point, do you?” Something’s happened. It would seem eyes and eyesight
have been held in high regard in the music industry, too. Just think of the songs. “Mine eyes have seen the glory…” “Oh say, can you see…” “My eyes adored you…” “Bette Davis eyes…” “I can see clearly now…” If only it were true...
