pioneer teams up with a legendary American sports writer/broadcaster/ anchor/personality, you can expect the results to be Legen (wait for it) dary! Red Hook has amassed a huge cult following over the years, so in pairing up with the very colourful Dan Patrick (ESPN/ABC/NBC/Sports Illustrated, etc) with a goal of creating the ideal beer to enjoy while watching the game, they hit the nail on the head with a beer that is definitely en fuego. Audible is a nice light copper
with an off-white head that quickly disappears. It has pale and bready malts, floral hops with a touch of caramel and perhaps apricot on the nose before tastes of grain and toasted bread, toffee, peaches, lemon, and a faint metallic tinge that I couldn’t place or avoid (that certainly wasn’t unpleasant – just hard to pin down). Moderately carbonated and extremely sessionable, this beer is a definite homerun/touchdown, and if sports were added, it would be crushable (highly drinkable!)
Kona Big Wave Golden Ale (1995 Kailua- Kona, Hawaii) 21IBUs 4.4% ABV, on tap at D’Arcy McGee’s Brewed on Hawaii’s “Big
Island”, this beer just screams summer! True to its name, it wows with a bright radiant gold colour and tight defined snow white foam cap that showcases intoxicating and sweet juicy tropical fruit aromas of papaya, mango, and oranges with floral and grassy hops with a taste that reveals grainy and caramel malts, hints of lemon, orange, honey, and sweet grass in a much more straight-forward thirst quencher of a beer than I had originally anticipated. Bright and clean, this easy drinker is perfect for an afternoon on a patio. Mahalo!
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (1979 Chico, California) 38 IBUs 5.6% ABV, LCBO 6 x 355ml bottles $14.95 This storied brewery started
out with the simple goal of brewing beers that they would want to drink
