Anne Arundel County, Maryland
Rendering of the new Ackerton Tower Suite at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, MD.
The Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau (AAACCVB) offers your team a strong local and state partnership to make your next event memorable for everyone.
Along with the Maryland Office of Sports Marketing, our County and City Recreation and Parks, private facilities and the Naval Academy Athletic Association, we have the tools, accom- modations and location in place for the perfect event.
Centrally located in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Annapolis and Anne Arundel County’s 17 turf fields, nationally recognized BMX Arena, 38,000- seat Stadium, and 100-plus multi-use fields and parks have hosted a wide variety of amateur, col- lege and professional sporting events.
Annapolis is located approximately 30 miles from both Baltimore and Washington, DC. One of the East Coast’s most renowned airports, Baltimore- Washington International Thurgood Marshall, is an easy 15-25 minute drive to our fields, venues, and stadium.
Our 60 plus hotels have more than 11,000 sports-friendly hotel rooms to accommodate teams and fans throughout the year.
Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay also provide unique activities outside the field of play. Off the field, athletes and families can find much to do, such as a visit to the Naval Academy or Maryland’s State Capital building. Browse the area’s exciting arts scene, take part in the many festivals and historical attractions, and choose from a wide selection of restaurants offering din- ing experiences at all price points.
Annapolis and Anne Arundel County has hosted many annual sporting events, including: Elite Soccer Tournaments; USA BMX East Coast Nationals; Capital City Hoops Classic; and Drum Corps Associates. Upcoming events include: Hogan Lacrosse; U.S. Bands Invitational; NCAA Lacrosse Championship Quarterfinals; The Military Bowl sponsored by Northrop Grumman; Race Across America (RAAM), recognized as the world’s toughest endurance bicycle race; and the 10K Across the Bay, an Olympic qualifying event.
Along with our fields and venues, the pride of our area is Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Home to Navy’s Division I NCAA sports programs and The Chesapeake Bayhawks, Maryland’s professional lacrosse team, Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium has been totally renovated over multiple years and has been transformed into a state-of-the-art multi-use facility.
Recent renovations to the stadium include the opening of The Clubs at Akerson Tower. This new facility offers some of the best views of down- town Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay with two 3,600-square foot areas that are designed to accommodate seated dinners or stand-up recep- tions.
First opened in 1959, Navy Marine Corps Stadium is a part of a prestigious history of sporting events in Annapolis that date back to pre-Revolutionary War times.
The Maryland Jockey Club held one of the first documented sporting events in Annapolis every November from 1769 to 1775. Back then, win- ners of “The Annapolis Subscription Plate” horse race were awarded a trophy along with sixty guineas. Notable members of the Maryland Jockey Club were George Washington, Andrew Jackson, and Maryland Declaration of Independence signers William Paca and Charles Carroll.
