When it comes to meetings, there are plenty of potential destinations from which to choose. These include urban settings, rural retreats, mountain escapes and serene conference centers - all of which are great options. Yet, there is something about being by the ocean that just feels... special.

The beach beckons like nowhere else. The draw to the shore is an annual right of passage for countless numbers who flock to the sand and surf for summer vacations. It's a place of frivolity and fun, of reminiscence and rejuvenation. For those who live close enough to the coast to have made this trip more than a few times, the beach and ocean become both a welcome and a welcoming sight.

But there's more to the shore than fun and games. There are a number of coastal destinations throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region that are just as beneficial to meeting productivity as they are to refreshing the mind, body and spirit.

Boardwalk Plaza Hotel - Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

Jennifer Zerby, the director of marketing for the award- winning Boardwalk Plaza Hotel, Victoria’s Restaurant and The Point Coffee House and Bake Shoppe in Rehoboth Beach, DE, knows a thing or two about the draw of the beach for meetings.

"One of the benefits is definitely the appeal the beach holds for the meeting attendees," she noted. "When the location is beachfront, many will bring a spouse or fam- ily members along to enjoy the beach while the meet- ings are being held, and then they will join them during off-business hours. Also, in the case of the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel, the view of the ocean and beach adds a relaxing and laid-back dimension to the meeting. Finally, there are the extra-curricular activities that can be planned - from beach walks to boating excursions - which also add an extra dimension."

For meetings, Boardwalk Plaza boasts two distinct meeting spaces: oceanfront banquet and meeting halls, and the smaller Plaza Cottage located just next door. The oceanfront meeting spaces can be combined for a larger function or separated into two areas for smaller ones. The cottage, on the other hand, is more of an executive-style meeting room that is best suited for groups of 12 people or fewer.

"The hotel offers a wide variety of oceanfront and ocean view suites, as well as standard rooms" said
