Newton Primary School - Primary 5 Get Active!

Primary 5 pupils have been very lucky as they have been taking part in different sporting activities thanks to Active Stirling.

During this term in P5M we have been taking part in Cricket. Our class started Cricket sessions 3 weeks ago. We play out in the playground with a professional coach, from Active Stirling called Tony! Tony teaches us on Fridays.

On the first week of cricket we were practising batting. I was worried in case I got something wrong. Tony taught us how to hold the bat properly and taught us lots of tips and techniques on how to hit the ball straight. On the second week we learned how to throw the ball. We also learned a cool new game called Diamond Cricket.

After I had a go at cricket I was proud because I’d tried something new and you never get bored of it. I would recommend it to someone who is looking for a new sport to try! By Anna

Basketball Festival On the 4th of November some P5s from schools in the Stirling area had one of the best opportunities ever! We had the chance to take part in a P5 basketball festival. In the morning it felt funny to go to school in our P.E kits! On the way to school I was so excited and my heart was pounding like a drum. As soon as we got into school our teachers told us the rules of the festival. We got into pairs and very soon we headed out of the school and on to the bus. By Abbi After we got off the bus we were put in our teams and we had to play four teams from other schools. Our team were the first team to play and it was five-four to us .Then we played our other games and we did well so we went on to play in quarter finals. It was a Newton derby which was exciting. By Rowan The semi-finals went in a blur and Newton 2 won again, so did Doune 3 and those were the finalists. The final was so thrilling! There was going to be a 10 minute match because it was a special final. The game dragged as Doune were winning. Suddenly Newton made an amazing comeback and the game ended on a win for Newton 2 and a trophy for the school. Amazing! What a great day out. I loved it. By Bethan
