New Year Resolutions

So Christmas is over and, the goose wasn’t the only one who got fat...

Over the festive period treats are everywhere, people encourage one another to have a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Drinks fl ow and chocolates and crisps are on every surface. We splurge money on gifts and on more food and drink than we could ever expect to eat in a normal month let alone in the twenty four hours when the supermarkets are closed. But surely that would mean we wouldn’t need to shop again in the days between Christmas and New Year and we could all relax? No, what happens is that millions of shoppers fl ood the shops on Boxing Day looking for bargains and then, they buy more food and drink in readiness for the New Year.

Our bodies and our credit cards take such a battering at this time of year and everywhere we hear the refrain ‘never again.....’ Then follows the annual list of resolutions, we vow never to smoke again, no more chocolate, we are defi nitely starting that diet and losing four stone by Easter and, above all, we are never touching another drink.

Instead of greeting the New Year in a spirit of excitement looking forward to what lies ahead, we get bogged down in setting major challenges for ourselves which most people have abandoned by the middle of January.

There is a very good reason for this. Ditching alcohol, stopping smoking or losing weight, which tend to be the three main resolutions, require a major change in behaviours and this is something most of us don’t excel at. We have a large area of untapped brain power which can be used for new learning but we struggle to unlearn old patterns of behaviour. So, if we get up in the morning and the fi rst thing we do is reach for a cigarette or a fry up we need to put a new behaviour in the place of this old one.

Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious mind where all our behaviours are stored and, using these powerful techniques, we can develop new thought processes and behaviours that can take the place of the old ones.

Hypnotherapy will support anyone to forget old behaviours and substitute new, healthy habits. For example, the smoker just wouldn’t fancy a cigarette anymore and would see themselves as a non smoker. The ‘would be’ slimmer would automatically reach for the healthy snack and just wouldn’t want to fi ll their plates with chips, desserts or biscuits.

These transformations would take place at a subconscious level and would be stronger and surer to succeed than any number of resolutions that are forced out of us as a reaction to excess.

So here we are at the beginning of a bright shiny New Year, let’s decide to make this the year that we move forward to success in everything we set out to achieve. Contact Orrganise for more information on how Hypnotherapy can support you in achieving your goals and best wishes for a fabulous 2015!
