Rain-soaked spectators looked on as UBC and UVic battled in the second annual Douglas Bowl Ultimate game. The Douglas Bowl is the original brainchild of Graeme Barber, a UVic alum and now teacher in Vancouver, BC. The mission of the Douglas Bowl is to bring the two schools together in competition and showcase elite college Ultimate in BC.

The 2013 installment was held on the University of Victoria campus on a sunny day in front of a delighted crowd. As envisioned by Barber in 2013, this year’s installment took place at UBC. Alternating every year is a staple of the Douglas Bowl to showcase the sport in both cities.

stacked a defensive line and made good on their break effort. Each goal in the wind-protected eastern end zone seemed to count for two as the breaks started flooding in.

Peter Yu and Fred Lam commanded their UBC D-line troops in the first half and completed the dominance with a final upwind break to take half 7-4. Other U23 standouts, Keane Knapp and Kevin Greer were taking control of the smooth UBC offense in the first half.

The weather worsened – if possible – through half time and a new, motivated UVic squad came out

in the second half. UVic converted on a pair of breaks out of half to stop the bleeding.

In classic Vancouver fashion, the skies opened up on the players and fans and never let up. It seemed fitting that these two west coast powerhouse clubs would battle in the nasty wind and rain Vancouver had to offer.

Open Game

The open game kicked off with both teams trading O line points. Each team was seemingly feeling each other out and pushing the limits in the weather. With the score tied at fours, UBC

UVic rallied on the shoulders of standout freshman Trevor Knechtel and seniors Luke Charlesworth and Colin Featherston. With the conditions, turnovers were a certainty. UVic made the most out of the UBC turns and brought the game back to a deadlock at eights.

With the time cap in place and universe point taking place, both teams laid everything on the line. UVic completed the comeback as Featherston flipped a dish pass to Oliver Telfer.

Both the 2013 and 2014 Douglas Bowls have wound up with UVic winning on Universe point.
