In addition to her on field success, Anne has also made a point of contributing to the Canadian Ultimate community. She co- captained and co-managed the University of Ottawa Ultimate program when she was playing (2006-2010) and was a driving force in the team’s success and ascension to being one of the top college teams in Canada. She also contributes to youth leagues, high schools, and women’s development in Ottawa, by coaching, running tournaments and clinics in her spare time.
Mercier was a key voice in mobilizing u23 players and Ultimate Canada in 2010 to push Canada to send teams to Florence for the first ever u23 championships. Mercier and Alex Benedict used their cross-country connections to rally interest and support from u23 players, proving there was interest and commitment on the part of u23 players and the community. international competition and help maintain a high level of interest in competition in the u23 age group.
Anne has represented her country at all possible levels throughout her career, playing for the Canadian junior women’s team, senior women’s team and this past summer at the World Games in Cali, Colombia. Many consider selection to the World Games roster to be amongst the highest honours you can receive in our sport.
At every level Anne has represented her country with skill, athleticism, class and dignity. On the home front she has dedicated her time to teaching the talent of tomorrow with her college team and other local organizations. She is a shining example of what it means to be a Canadian Ultimate player.
