This year he has shown an incredible ability to shoulder a heavy Ultimate load including overlapping responsibilities of general manager, captain and top player for the RUSH coupled with his training and preparation for the World Games. Lloyd puts on a tough mark during Potlatch 2013

Certainly many players had a similar playing load throughout the season and anyone at the elite level trains extremely hard. The added responsibility of the business management and a new leadership role this year meant for an intense season filled with pressures that could bring down a player’s performance. This is a large responsibility for such a young player to handle and he did a fantastic job all the while improving his game to the point where he is firmly in the conversation as one of the top players in the sport. His contributions are equal both on the field and off.

Mark Lloyd had a fantastic 2013 that merits recognition.

Lloyd is a prime example of what this award represents as he excelled at three different levels on field: in the AUDL with the Toronto Rush, in USAU with Toronto’s GOAT and on the national stage with the Team Canada at the World Games. His leadership qualities shine through in everything he does. Mark exemplifies spirit of the game with his passion for the sport while respecting his opponents and teammates. He is a shining example of what it means to be a Canadian Ultimate player. He had the best season of any male athlete in the country. The race wasn’t even close!
