Leslie Calder lays out huge at the WUGC in Turku, Finland in 2004


place finish in 1998. She then took first place at the Canadian Championships with Prime in 1999 and 2000, and with Traffic in 2007. She was chosen the MVP at the Canadian Championships in 1995 and 1996.


In the United States’ series, she finished in third place with Prime at the then UPA Championships in 2000 and took second place in 2004. On the international stage, she finished in third place with Team Canada at the World Ultimate And Guts Championship in 1998, and in first in 2000 and 2004. She also made her mark in co-ed play, winning the gold medal with Team Canada at the World Games in 2001.


But Calder wasn’t just a great player, she was also a leader. She served as captain of GOO and Prime between 1997 and 2000 and for Team Canada in 2000, and has coached

a number of teams, including Team Canada in 2008. She has also served as a mentor for many younger players through clinics and captaincies.


In the words of her long time teammate and fellow Hall of Fame member Anja Haman, “Through Leslie’s leadership and drive to win, she taught Vancouver women’s Ultimate how to go for number one. She raised the quality bar for GOO/Prime each year and modeled that focus on the field and off. She set new standards and gave the Vancouver Ultimate community someone to be proud of, and to cheer for. And her mental toughness speeches prepared us as a team and as individuals to embrace winning, and offered the final journey we needed to take before getting the gold in Germany.”
