CHAMPIONSHIPS CUC 2014 WATERLOO, ONTARIO

Waterloo hopes to pave the way for mid-sized cities! Written by: Andrew Portwine

Ultimate Canada is proud to announce that it will continue offering a 6-team Women’s Masters division in 2014 and 2015

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been thinking about the summer Ultimate series since that first blade of grass poked out from under the thick blanket of snow and ice. Now that we can see some green and our hopes are high for some games with friends, it also means that we are mere months from the 2014 CUC.

With that comes the anticipation of tryouts, making the team and showing that your off-season training has paid off. It also means a ramped up practice and training schedule to ensure your goals are met, and with any luck, a visit to Waterloo to take part in CUC 2014.

As Tournament Director for this year’s event I’m eager to have the opportunity to showcase all the city and region of Waterloo have to offer. I look forward to continuing to work with partners throughout the spring and early summer to ensure players have a high quality experience while attending CUC2014. The intended result from our efforts being that Ultimate Canada will continue to consider mid-sized cities as a host for major events. I’m also pleased to see the effect that this event has already had on the local league (Waterloo Organization of Disc Sports – WODS) and am hopeful for the lasting legacy of hosting such a prestigious event.

Our volunteers have come out in droves to help organize the various aspects of the CUC and our fledgling juniors program has already started to organize for the upcoming season. With any luck, many young people in the area can attend CUC games, see the top talent in the country and help develop a

32 viable long term juniors touring program.

We already have a number of sponsors/partners involved with the Championships including the City of Waterloo, Region of Waterloo Tourism Marketing Corporation, VC Ultimate, WODS, Grand River Transit, Discraft, Conestoga Mall, HTG Sport Services, Flying Dog Night Club, the University of Waterloo and others. All of these great groups are working with us to ensure you have the best deals possible on transportation, accommodation and merchandise as well as quality venues for pool play games, finals and THE PARTY!

Often I’m dealing with more serious CUC topics, but with this introductory look at CUC2014 I also have the pleasure of unveiling the official tournament logo. We were very fortunate to have the fantastic graphic design folks at VC Ultimate work on developing this year’s logo. (Thanks Adriana!)

With that, I hope you enjoy the logo and I look forward to seeing all of you in Waterloo this August.
