dogsin the city Summertime, And the Livin’ is Easy.
Especially for a Pembroke Welsh Corgi Named Guinness.
E
very dog worth his whiskers knows summertime is when puppies really love to sink their paws in to the great outdoors. Oh, yeah. The sun is out and the hunt is on for worms and lizards –
dead or alive. And if the find is exception- ally fragrant, a dramatic dog-body drop ‘n roll is just gonna hap- pen…maybe even with the four point back wiggle and a half twist to notch up the degree of difficulty. Oh, and we really love the barktastic sum-
mer grill parties. People show up just to see Rosie and me, so we make sure to greet them with enthusiasm, which frequently includes Rosie spinning around in circles – we call it a “spin cycle for her fur”...we’re pretty much blowing coats all over the place in celebration. But, the best part is when we get to play
with human food. Inevitably, a morsel of good- ness, be it a piece of broccoli or a luscious nugget of burger will perilously (not to men- tion, fortuitously) drop to the floor. It’s at that
moment the three second rule comes in to play. First dog to snag that snack before any other dogs and, more importantly, before mommy or daddy sees and intervenes, gets snaggin’ rights. After the big snag watch event, out comes the football, and everyone gets a chance to show off their moves. Back and forth that ball goes until it hits the ground. Seizing the opportunity, my super puppy power cape unfurls and I race in and wrap my chompers around that
pigskin and take off. My mad skills in action
are a sight to see, dodging tackles and powering my way through the crowd. My four-paw-drive is lean and mean, and I am unstoppable. As I finish making my victory lap, my super
sniffer picks up on that oh so intriguing and pungent smell of a lizard nearby. I wander off in to the tall grass, sniffing out the irresistibly aro- matic carcass. As I take a deep whiff and flop over on top of my prized find, I can’t help but smile in utter and complete satisfaction. Another DOG-tastic day in the summer sun.
