1. CATHY UNRUH & WILLIE A journalist, animal advocate and author of the book Taming Me, Memoir of an Island Cat, Cathy brings an unusual twist to romanticism in her piece, Happy Anniversary, Sweetie on page 45. Blushing allowed.
2. CATHERINE M. ZEHNER, RORY AND COLTER As a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Catherine has owned and operated The DogSmith of Florida’s Emerald Coast in the Panhandle since 2008. She brings her knowledge as a dog trainer with her love of boating for some practical tips on safe boating on page 34.
3. MAUREEN “MO” ANN FLAHERTY & ORION She is a public speaker, actor and foster parent to
dogs.She has held some interesting jobs, including forklift operator. She also had the lead role in an Emmy-nominated short film, Radioman. Her Miracles & Wonders in the Heart of Eden on page 42 is an uplifting piece about a Bradenton dog’s journey with her seven puppies from Manatee County Humane Society.
4. YVONNE GUIBERT & CHICA Her store, Groovy Cats & Dogs is a holistic pet boutique that focuses 100% on good, healthy nutrition for dogs and cats. If she carries the product, rest assured Yvonne has scrutinized the integrity of the company and the ingredients of the product. She gives us her perspective on feeding dogs a raw diet on page 70.
5. TINAVALANT, CHLOE & DRU Our go-to photographer and animal advocate in South Florida is also a matchmaker. Yes, she has the uncanny ability to find just the right dog for the right person. As a professional photographer you may find her behind the lens on the golf course shooting a PGA tournament, or volunteering her skills for a local animal charity. Check out her work on the water in Dig It on page 20.
6. JO MALDONADO & SYD Whether we realize it or not, we are constantly sending messages to our pets. Through our thoughts, the sound of our voice and our body language. As an animal communicator, Jo believes we all have the ability to communicate positively with our animals. Her reading with a sweet couple, Jack & Jill is featured on page 40.
7. REBECCA LUEDKE, LUCY & OSCAR As a volunteer for a Tallahassee rescue group, Last Hope Rescue, Rebecca is the first to admit that she has learned so much about life from the dogs she fosters, many of whom were minutes away from being euthanized. Learning to Let Go on page 63 is one of those lessons.
8. HEATHER SCHULMAN & PUCK Her steady, calm presence brings stability to whatever we’re doing here at The New Barker, whether it’s working multiple events in one day, organizing and researching story sources or taking photos. We sent her to review the Cesar Millan show in Tampa. Read her thoughts on the Dog Whisperer, on page 78.
9. LAURA ALLEN & LUCY She recently donated $600 to Animal Coalition of Tampa from the Christmas in July fundraising event in which she par- ticipated. This year will mark her 15th year donating her sit- ting fees over two weekends in September to help raise funds and awareness for the SPCA Tampa Bay.
10. LEANNE SANDBACH & WUBB Leanne has been working behind the scenes to score some exclusive interviews for The New Barker. She is our newest Rover Reporter, helping us cover Central Florida and Tampa Bay Area events and stories.
11. JACQUI SILLA & SIERRA What makes her so good in her dual careers as a photographer and dog trainer is the fact that she takes the time to listen to her clients’ needs. You’ll see her work in The New Barker, as one of our Bay Area rover reporters.
12. LON MARTIN, GUINNESS & ROSIE As their adventures continue, we follow the adorable antics of Guinness and Rosie Roo through the eyes of Lon in Dogs in the City on the last page of every issue.
