ically, from giving surf lessons to dogs, and blossomed into an incredi- ble experience,” said organizer Shellie Chiet, mom to rescued Coonhound mix, Marley. “We met so many great dogs, and their fami- lies,”she added. Competing by size, more than
twenty dogs registered to brave the waves. The weather was spectacular, with a lively breeze and bright sum- mer sun. The H20 was a bit choppy, but that didn’t deter the dogs from getting in some awesome sets. Most
of the larger dogs finished their ride in the backwash of the shore. Ocean Magic’s big kahuna, Don
French served as surf commentator. “My favorite part was watching the dogs enjoy all the attention,” he said. There was another radical aspect
of the event. Big Dog Ranch Rescue was selected as an event-partner and beneficiary. $2500 was raised. “Our adoptable dogs and volun-
teers had a wonderful day. Those funds will help a lot of dogs who are in need,” said Lauree Simmons, founder of Big Dog Ranch Rescue.
