well bred & well read. It’s Not Far Down to Paradise.
Win a seven-day Western Caribbean Cruise for Two on the Norwegian Dawn. Glenn Harsin, a Good Samaritan, animal advocate and long time supporter of the Humane Society of the Nature Coast has donated a seven-day cruise for a very special raffle prize. Ticket donations are $2 each or six for $10. Heck, even if you don't win the cruise, you're still a winner, since all proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of the Nature Coast. The ship departs out of Tampa, visiting Roatan, Belize City, Costa Maya and Cozumel. Two years ago, Glenn donated a five-day
cruise which raised nearly $4,000. “Our goal is to double the money raised with this seven-day cruise,” said Teri Reeves, a board member and Treasurer for the shelter. Visit
www.HumaneRescue.org/cruise to pur-
chase your tickets. The drawing will be held October 15, 2013. For more information or to purchase offline, call 352.796.2711. Bon Voyage.
Friends of photographer and animal advocate Tina Valant have learned to watch what they say around her. She has a keen memory and a knack for matching homeless dogs with people. When a friend casually mentioned that if Tina ever came across a Papillon or a Pomeranian in her rescue work, to please let her know. A week later, Tina called her friend Ellie in Boca Raton and said, “Meet me in Miami. I have found your dog.” In fact, Tina found Hunnie, scared and lonely, in a high kill shelter. Her family was moving, and told the shel- ter staff that they couldn’t take her with them. Today, the little dog
is living large, deservedly
spoiled by her happy human. “I could not ask for a better companion. Hunnie enjoys reading every issue of The New Barker, especially photos and stories by her fairy-dogmother, Tina,” said Ellie.
