Marriage Love &

Michaela & Donald Douglas Leslie Mincey Photography

Once upon a time at Hartsville High, Michaela Folk and Donald Douglas met one an- other in their 9th grade math class. Aſter a year of dating, Michaela knew that without a doubt he was her Prince Charming. “I didn’t want to live without him. He was the one for me!” The couple dated four years before Donald finally popped the question on their four year anniversary. “He took me to my favorite city, Charleston. We went out to dinner then walked the Battery. We went back to our hotel, and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was in shock! I spent the rest of the night and the next day look- ing at my diamond which, by the way, was breathtakingly beautiful.” Her dream was for her wedding to be a perfect memory. And boy, was it ever a

fairy tale come true! On October 19, 2013, she and Donald exchanged vows in front of 350 guests. “I had butterflies, lots of butterflies. But most importantly, I was the happiest girl in the world!” She looked stunning in her strapless Oleg Cassini gown (something new), with a heart shaped piece of her PaPa Buck’s favorite shirt sewn on the inside close to her heart (something blue). “When I first tried it on, it was a perfect fit and no alterations were needed. I felt like a princess.” With her dress, she wore monogrammed Jack Rogers shoes. For hair, she chose a Victorian up-do. Eden Kelly

at Belk added finishing touches with her beautiful makeup. With her two tiered veil, she wore a pearl and crystal clip that her mother wore for her wedding to Michaela’s stepfather (something borrowed). For something old, she was given her great grand- mother’s Bible. Brown and orange was the color scheme of the wedding, which went beautifully with the

flowers. “My bouquet was fall flowers tied with an ivory satin rose ribbon. The bridesmaid’ bouquets were like mine but tied with the orange satin rose ribbon.” The church sanctuary glowed from the candelabras, especially the unity cross. “The scripture and significance was very meaningful to us because of our Christian faith.” The celebration quickly began aſterward, where guests couldn’t wait to try the delicious food on display. “I requested that my reception be set up in stations. We had a mini shrimp cocktail table, carving station with pork tenderloin, spud bar, fruit and cheese table, hors d’oeuvres table, a sauté station with vegetables, beverage station and s’mores bar (which was a big hit). I have to give a special thanks to Sharon Brunson for letting me borrow the s’mores bar she had built for her son’s wedding.” A family friend made their cake as a wedding giſt to the couple. It was surely delectable with 3 tiers of vanilla, chocolate and red velvet covered in pearls and shimmer.
