IMAGING OF
CHILDREN IN ADULT HOSPITALS: IMPROVING QUALITY, SHARING PRACTICE
3 June 2014 The UCH Education Centre, London NW1
In 2011, as a result of concerns which had been raised about the quality of imaging services of children in adult hospitals, the SCoR embarked on a campaign aimed at identifying the problems and possible solutions. From this work, there has been a series of actions, details of which can be seen on our website at https://
www.sor.org/practice/hot-topics/children. This study day has been planned to update and engage the profession. Topics will include expectations of the professional body, child development gathered for the day and they will share their good practice. There will also be opportunities for asking questions, discussing issues and networking.

WORKSHOP IN THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE FOR RADIOGRAPHERS
17 June 2014 • SCoR Headquarters, London
10% discount for previous attendees of one of our introductory Alexander Technique courses
This entirely practical workshop is for those with some prior experience of the Alexander Technique who, having acquired some knowledge, would now like to enhance it practically and build on existing experience.
This workshop is a follow-up from the popular introductory workshops in the AT as a tool to prevent work-related musculoskeletal problems in the radiography profession.
Working in a group context, we will be looking at practical procedures that respond to your needs when you are actively engaged in work tasks. This workshop is a valuable opportunity to make real progress in your understanding of how to change patterns of motor and postural behaviour for better support and use of your body.
We will, for example, explore movements of the hip, knee and ankle joints to adjust the use of the lower limbs from one of compressed and tight movements, to one of easy bending.
Procedures exploring the correct rotation and sequence of movements for the elbows, wrists and hands will address excessive tension in the use of the upper limbs and allow more freedom in the shoulders, arms and hands.
By applying what you learn about the Alexander Technique, you will acquire the necessary knowledge for self-management of a balanced and correct use, and the ability to counteract the daily muscular tension build up that over time, if left unchecked, may lead to musculoskeletal problems. Better use of your body will also allow you to manage existing conditions and prevent them from progressing further.
Course Outline • Identify where head pivots at top of the spine to release neck tension
• Develop appreciation of support of gravity whilst moving around, sitting and standing
• Identify your habits of tension when sitting and standing
• Improve body map by identifying location of joints with practical exploration of range of movement
• Refresh importance of the relationship of head/neck/back for good coordination
• Identify reactions to stressors and benefits of pausing before responding
• Consciously move with increased awareness of balance and coordination
