Her first flag assignment was as the Reserve assistant, Com- munication Networks on the chief of Naval Operations’ staff. She later served as the deputy for a command responsible for executing military space operations in support of national and combatant command objectives.


She earned a master’s degree in science, technology and public policy (space policy emphasis) from George Washing- ton University.

ear Adm. Katherine Gregory served as commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific and Fleet civil engineer. Her other assignments include tours in Yokosuka, Japan; Na- ples, Italy; San Francisco; Alaska; and Pearl Harbor. She has also had staff tours in Washington, D.C., serving as the Seabee ac- tion officer and Chief of Naval Operations Overseas Bases plan- ning and action officer.


Within the Naval Construction Force (Seabees), she has served with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion One; as commander of the 30th Naval Construction Regiment; and chief of staff for the First Naval Construction Division. Throughout her Seabee tours, she deployed to the Western Pacific, Mediterranean, Iraq and Haiti.


Gregory is a graduate of the Naval Academy. She holds degrees from the University of Southern California and George Washington University, and has completed the Senior Executive Program at the London School of Business. She is a qualified military parachutist and combat warfare officer.

ear Adm. Janice Hamby was com- missioned from University of North


Carolina’s NROTC program in 1980. She attended Boston University earn- ing a master’s in information systems management and another in business administration. She was subsequently assigned as assistant professor of com- puter sciences at the Military Academy.


In 1994, she was part of the initial assignment of women to na- val combatants. Hamby graduated from the Naval War College in 1997, earning a master’s in national security. Awarded the Vice Admiral Arthur Cebrowski award for best essay on informa- tion warfare, command and control warfare and related systems and technology issues, she was named Presidential Honor Graduate. Hamby was then selected to serve as associate fellow on the chief of naval operations’ Strategic Studies Group. She later served as a special assistant for information management and information operations issues.


Following a major command tour Hamby accepted a tempo- rary assignment as the director of Knowledge and Informa- tion Management on the staff of the Multi-National Force- Iraq. In July 2006, she reported to her first flag assignment at Naval Network Warfare Command as director of Global Operations. In May 2009, she was selected for a second star.

ear Adm. Martha Herb was com- missioned via Officer Candidate School in July 1979. Prior to her call to active duty, Dr. Herb worked as a licensed therapist and clinical profes- sional counselor.


During active service, she was one of the first three women to graduate from the Naval School of Diving and


Salvage. Her subsequent tours included assignments with the Navy Surface Fleet Atlantic Second Class Diving School, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Testing and Evaluation Unit Two.


Transitioning to the Reserve Component in 1983, she completed five command tours including: Mobile Diving
