PISCINE & AQUALIE 2012, LYON, FRANCE

Piscine And Aqualie 2012 Exhibitions: A Successful Event, With Fine Prospects For The Sector

THAT WAS THE POSITIVE HEADLINE ON THE OFFICIAL POST SHOW REPORT PRODUCED BY THE SHOW ORGANISERS GL EVENTS. IN A FOLLOW UP TO THE REVIEW IN OUR DECEMBER ISSUE, WE TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SUCCESS OF LAST YEARS LYON EVENT – THE LARGEST OF ITS KIND IN THE WORLD By Jon Wadeson

T

he 2012 Piscine and Aqualie exhibitions organised by GL events Exhibitions and supported by the French Federation of Swimming- Pool Professionals and the French Swimming Federation drew nearly 16,000 professional visitors to Lyon over a four day period. 39 per cent of them from were from abroad and 61% from France.

The international nature of this event was even more pronounced than in previous years, with over 6,200 visitors coming from 117 countries. Certain markets appear to be booming, as can be seen not only from the visitor statistics, but also from exhibitors’ reports. GL reported the following increase in visitors from: • Africa: +11% (especially in the Maghreb countries, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria)

• Asia: +121% (Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam)

• Eastern Europe: +22% (Albania, Armenia, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine)

• Middle East: +20% (Saudi Arabia, Israel, Lebanon and Kuwait)

Latin America is another emerging region, in particular with Ecuador, Mexico and Panama and GL events also reported more foreign delegations than ever, with major Danish and Israeli decision-makers attending this year. Overall though, the event attracted slightly fewer visitors than in 2010, possibly as a result of the organisers complying with exhibitors’ requests for Aqualie to run for one

day less and no evening session for Piscine. Despite this, GL events report that initial feedback from exhibitors is very positive, saying: “Their objectives were met, with clients and prospects targeted and ready to place orders.”

AN ABUNDANCE OF INNOVATIONS AND A BUSINESS-LIKE ATMOSPHERE Most who attended Lyon would agree that the 2012 exhibition was a dynamic one. The world’s leading brands were present and easily identified through their inclusion in the Majors Club.

The show was rich in solutions and new technologies with numerous exhibitors choosing to launch their new products at the show, both on stands and in the Top 100 and Pool Eco Attitude areas.

Seventeen awards were made for innovations in a variety of categories: outdoor development, lighting/electricity, indoor furniture, paving and flooring, protection/ safety, filtration, water treatment, pool structures, spas, etc. In addition, three aesthetically and technically outstanding pool projects were given Pool Vision awards. Highly popular events such as the Water

Tests area, with demonstration sessions in real pools gave visitors a better understanding of products and how they should be used. The many new products shown and the assistance offered to exhibitors with regard to exports meant that decision makers, visiting the exhibition to prepare for future projects, found a wider range of products

and solutions. Quality was also a key theme, and visitors – most of them decision-makers – confirmed that this was an essential event and meeting-place for the entire profession. There was a record attendance at the 14th Aqualie Congress, which dealt with a wealth of subjects such as Nordic pools and assistance with the design and management of swimming- pools and wellness amenities in aquatic centres. Outside of the venue, three evenings out

in Lyon for Piscine attendees were organised and attended by more than 1,000 exhibitors, visitors and partners which created a further opportunity for people to network.

CONCLUSION

So once again, Piscine and Aqualie appear to have confirmed their position as the major international venue for the swimming-pool market, despite the difficult economic back drop.

In conclusion, GL events reported that Piscine 2012 was “a very positive result for this comprehensive event that drew all the players, revealed the latest trends and promoted innovation”.

The official report is available to download from the Piscine website now along with a report on the award winners.
