LED Lighting System Delivers Big Savings For Council

LIFE Long Energy has supplied an LED lighting system to replace ageing high pressure sodium lighting at Scarborough’s indoor swimming pool

complex. The existing discharge lighting was around 40 years old, well past its best and often tripped out, meaning that maintenance had become increasingly time consuming and costly.

Installation of LIFE Long’s Mithras LED luminaires, which included complete re-wiring of the lighting system, has transformed the pool and its surroundings areas with improved lighting levels and a whiter light. Electricity costs will be reduced by around

71%, with a reduction in CO2 emissions of 16,000kg per annum and a projected payback period of five years. The lighting upgrade without re-wiring would have delivered a return on investment within three years. The innovative design of the Mithras luminaires enables ingress protection to IP67 for

protection against the humid atmosphere while also ensuring excellent thermal management of the LED light sources to extend their life. Some of the lighting points were also re-positioned to maximise the light penetration into the water.

The project was financed with the support of an institutional energy saving funder and included a range of other energy saving measures. These included solar photovoltaic panels, a heat-saving pool cover, improved insulation, T5 lighting in the gym, variable speed drives on pumps and fans and occupancy sensors for lighting.

Save Energy And Money With A Heat Retention Pool Cover

It’s a scientific fact that your uncovered swimming pool could be losing up to 80% of its heat through evaporation – hitting both your finances and your green credentials.

The simple solution is to install a heat retention pool cover from leading UK manufacturer Forge Leisure.

Not only will you feel the benefit in terms of heat reduction losses of between 50% and 70% allied with a noticeable reduction in fuel bills; the associated reduction in chemical evaporation and condensation afforded by a heat reduction pool cover will also slow down the structural deterioration of the pool itself, thus saving even more money on structural repairs. Chris Bland, Operations Director of Forge Leisure said: “With increases in
