STAINLESS STEEL POOLS

standards to ensure that the installation complies fully with any performance specifications and employers’ requirements. Examples of this method of working can be seen in two recently completed projects undertaken alongside AstralPool UK Ltd customers.

Oyster Pools & Leisure Ltd of South

Wales recently completed the supply and installation of a 6m x 4m hydrotherapy stainless steel pool complete with coloured LED lights, massage stations and features for the prestigious Ty Hafan Project near Barry, South Wales. The pool was built as part of a new facility for this prestigious organisation to supplement the offerings of respite care for its residents. Naturally the choice of pool and the finished product formed an essential part of the clients brief and this was achieved in part by the company working alongside Oyster Pools as key partners to facilitate the delivery of a stunning end product.

Alba/SB Pools Ltd of Brechin, Scotland recently handed over a 7m x 3.7m stainless steel hydrotherapy pool for the new St Ambrose & Drumpark ASN High School in Coatbridge, Scotland. The new facility will double up as a sports hub, opening its doors to the public at evenings and weekends. Initially only an outline brief was supplied with

space for the pool and plant room plotted on a drawing. With so much detail to be added, the project Involved a considerable amount of discussion over a relatively short period of time,

resulting in the submission of proposals and options and some fine tuning before the final design was reached and approved.

A clean and easily

maintained pool design was required which resulted in the choice of an all stainless steel pool shell with a deck level design. The pool was to have a variety of sensory features plus a seated semi circular hydrotherapy area incorporating both hydro and air jets, with a custom designed Smartscreen BMS Touchpad Control enabling pool side operation of the sensory features. The pool was to have a stepped floor with water depth from 900mm to 1200mm with specially designed stainless steel easy access steps with sloping handrails, plus perimeter stainless steel hand railing.

AstralPool UK Ltd worked closely alongside the team at Alba and the principal contractor Balfour Beatty to ensure the client’s stringent requirements were met and that the new pool formed an integral part of the overall sports facilities.

Speaking about the project and AstralPool UK Ltd’s involvement, Nigel Taylor of Alba/ SB Pools Ltd said: “We received a high level of involv ement and support from AstralPool

UK Ltd, with Technical Director Simon Jones in particular offering invaluable assistance with the project design and development. Simon’s expertise and his straightforward, no nonsense and professional approach was extremely beneficial to us in this project. “We earnestly hope that this is the start of many future stainless steel projects where AstralPool UK Ltd and Alba Pools work together to produce first class facilities in the pool industry throughout the UK,” added Taylor. Finally the company are working alongside Penguin Pools to deliver two large stainless steel pools within the well-known Vauxhall Tower development in central London. This is a residential skyscraper under construction as part of the St George Wharf development. When built, it will be 181 metres tall with 50 storeys and as part of

this development the two steel pools will be built on the ground floor and the more challenging 49th storey! The partnership between the company and Penguin Pools has resulted in regular attendance and design input by technical staff from AstralPool UK Ltd and also representatives from Spain at full design team meetings encompassing architects Broadway Malyan, principal contractors Brookfield Multiplex and interior fit out specialists Swift Horsmann, to produce performance based specifications and drawings. The offerings of the two stainless steel pools are ideally suited to the challenging environment that they are being constructed in to produce a high quality, bespoke solution that the rigorous employers requirements demand.

In conclusion the message has to be engaging in this level of partnership working between AstralPool UK Ltd will only serve to add value to the any opportunities that may present themselves and ultimately put all parties in as strong a position as possible to capitalise on this increased interest for stainless steel pools.
