Commenting on the appointment of GVS, Kevin Howell, Operations Manager of E J Bowman, said: “Continued growth in our swimming pool heat exchanger business meant that we needed a

new distributor

to handle the sale of swimming pool spares and service parts in the UK. We had already established a very successful working relationship with GVS who are centrally based in the West Midlands and within easy reach of our head office. They offered in-depth knowledge of our products and the technical requirements of the pool trade. We were also impressed by their commitment to providing customers with a fast turnaround service, which we believe has been a key factor in achieving an excellent first year of sales growth, both for our pool heat exchangers and swimming pool spares programme. We look forward to working with GVS and are confident they can develop our UK business even further.” E J Bowman offers a comprehensive range of heat exchangers for both solar and conventionally heated pools, available in titanium, stainless steel and cupronickel to suit applications of up to 1,000kW plus capability.

NEW POOL CLOSED AFTER CHILD’S ACCIDENT In December, swimming pools at the new Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre were closed for more than 24 hours while attention was paid to slippery flooring after a child fell and sustained a head injury.

Just days after the centre officially opened, the St Albans leisure centre run by Everyone Active decided to shut the pools so floor tiles could be treated to ensure the “safety of its customers”.

Commenting on the closure, Lib Dem leisure spokesman Cllr Anthony Rowlands said: “It is embarrassing and worrying that it has been necessary to close the pool facilities less than a fortnight after they were opened.

“While it is clearly

correct to close the facility until the problem is solved, this episode raises all sorts of questions about why such an obvious and fundamental matter had not been dealt with before the pools were opened.”

FIRE SERVICE DEAL WITH CHEMICAL LEAK

One of the lessons Golden Coast has learned is that customers are much more likely to buy if they can look, touch and feel. With this in mind, it has put together a very effective Tylö ‘virtual’ sauna display which gives a real flavour of the sauna experience. without taking up valuable showroom space. With two options available, the attractively priced display is 2.3 metres high and either 1.5 or 2.0 metres wide. The kit contains everything you need to set the sauna scene, from the shelving and furnishings to the heater, sauna stones, buckets and ladles, hourglass and a collection of essential oils.

“Whatever you do, now is not the time to stand still,” warns Jamie Adams. “But while there are many possibilities for diversification, if you move into areas only loosely associated with your core business you may damage your image as a wet leisure specialist. That’s why the sauna market, which is such a good fit with the pool business, is the ideal direction in which to expand.”

A hotel in Dorset was evacuated and a sixty metre cordon was put in place after a chlorine gas leak from equipment in the hotel’s swimming pool. An estimated twenty firefighters wearing gas tight suits were called to the Sandbanks Hotel in Poole in January. All guests were taken out of the building and one person was treated by ambulance crews at the scene. The chemicals concerned - sodium bisulphate solution and sodium hypochlorite - when mixed make a chlorine solution which gives off chlorine gas.
