The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has launched four new river fl ood warning schemes in Stirling.

Across Scotland, there are approximately 125,000 properties at risk of fl ooding: that’s one in 22 residential properties and one in 13 business premises so the scale of the problem is signifi cant.
Stirling has suff ered from fl ooding in recent years. Brian Devlin from Bridge of Allan has seen the devastating eff ects of fl ooding fi rst- hand: “The fi rst time it happened was 20 years ago and it was an awful experience. When the water fi nally clears, it’s fi lthy. The clear

up is a horrible task and we lost things that were valuable to us that cannot be replaced. Advanced warning is key and I have been able to save my property from devastation on a number of occasions now.”
Gail Donald SEPA’s Flood Advisor covering the Stirling area, said: “I would urge everyone living in these areas in Stirling to sign up to this new free service today. It only takes a minute to register via the SEPA website meaning you will be warned in advance of river fl ooding for your area. Then you can take action to ensure your home and family are protected.”
“While no one can stop fl ooding from happening, advance warning and good preparation can limit its impact on your home or business.”
