On Burns Night, the children of Wee Acorns take the opportunity to celebrate all things Scottish.

Tartan artwork can be created by painting lines from top to bottom of a sheet of paper, and then from side to side. When the paint is dry, use a roller or brush to paint lines in a different colour in between the ones already done.

A more challenging way for older children to make tartan is to cut strips of paper from two different coloured sheets, then interweave them and stick the fi nished weave onto backing paper.

Make a thistle picture by tightly scrunching up a plastic bag (and taping on a handle for tiny hands). Dip the bag into purple paint spread over a plate, and print onto paper.

Repeat with a

different shade of purple on top for a 3D effect. Make the thistle stem with a sweep of a green fi nger.
