Christmas time is often a very busy time of the year and children and staff at Newton Primary School and Nursery have been working very hard in preparation for Christmas. Many other learning activities have been happening alongside.

What have we been learning at Newton? Newton Primary School

The Nursery children have been learning about the story of the Nativity and have enjoyed acting it out. They also went to see the Polar Bears Pantomime at the macrobert and really liked seeing the skiing polar bears and the lit Christmas trees.

Both P.1 classes have been working together on the Nativity production and practising non- stop. They are working hard together to show it to the mums and dads. They are also enjoying making paper plate Rudolph’s and other Christmas activities.

P.2 are working very hard on their Weather topic. They have put out a rain gauge and have measured the amount of water in it every day. They have also been working out what materials are waterproof and which are not. In addition they have been learning about evaporation and the water cycle.

P.3 are working on their Green and Growing topic. In mathematics P3 have been learning their three times table.

P.4 have been running the successful Christmas Post to raise money for Strathcarron Hospice. Each day they visit all the classes to collect children, with cards to send, and later deliver the cards to all the classes. P.4 have been responsible for running this event which takes lots of organisation and hard work.

P.5 are writing their own Christmas stories about the birth of Jesus. They have also made their own Advent Calendar, and enjoy opening a box containing something special every day.

P.6 have been learning about Antarctica and The Arctic & are studying the animals that live there.

P.7 have been applying for jobs in the Newton Job Centre to organise the planning for the Burns Supper enterprise in which all P7’s are involved.

Crazy Hair Day! On Children in Need Day 2012, Newton Primary School Pupil Council organised a Crazy Hair Day in aid of Children in Need. Our Crazy Hair Day was a great success and everyone tried their best to have the craziest hair. One person from each class was chosen to parade round the school and received a certifi cate. Even the teachers joined in as well.

In the end we raised a fantastic £436.39.
