Top Technology Trends For 2013
Smart phone accessories become smarter Smart phones have always had a successful accessory market, from covers to keyboards but now we are seeing the emergence of smart accessories. More than just apps with sensors, smart accessories put the smart phone at the centre of our lives.
They will
provide a link to the technology in our offi ces, home and cars as well as to our medical well- being. Already there are reported cases of iPhone apps being used to save lives. Recently a doctor on a fl ight diagnosed a fellow passenger’s heart attack by using his smartphone which contained an ECG app complete with sensors! 2013 will herald the introduction of more and more smart apps designed to save time, money and lives, although I imagine there will be a few more Angry Bird versions too!
Smart phones will remove the need for human memory. To some degree, this is already true of my memory! I often use the notes application on my phone to jot down shopping lists or important piece of information I mustn’t forget. However, 2013 will see us move closer to the day when smart phones apps such as iris recognition and fi ngerprint authentication combined with stored biometric data means that we will no-longer be required to remember multiple passwords for on-line banking . Include the ability for voice-based log-ins and you can see how our phones will become more essential in our quest for greater security and faster access to our information.
Smart TV Using Apps Television will get a key boost in the marketplace, fueling a major shift in home viewing.
Ever wonder how you could have
over 500 cable or satellite channels and nothing to watch? You didn’t have apps on your TV allowing you to personalise the

experience. This is the beginning of a major shift that will take place in living rooms globally. No doubt there will be a living room sized iPad replacing the 40” 3D plasma screens that seem to be everywhere!
Personal Networks Replace Established Methods. As a result of recent economic turbulence, consumers are progressively placing their trust in personal networks and communities. People are seeking references and feedback from their peers more than ever before. As a result the use of social media is booming. LinkedIn is taking over where the traditional employment agency falters, and Twitter can replace sending out your CV.
Facebook is
being used to elicit feedback on products and services and is proving itself to be an increasing sophisticated marketing tool.
IN-LINE Shopping Increases
It is thought that about a third of all smartphone users already shop with their smartphones. However, the ability to shop on-line is no longer enough. Users now want to combine the benefi ts of shopping in-store and online. They want to see products, get information and make price comparisons, as well as receiving purchases immediately without having to queue up at the cash register. 2013 should see an increase in the provision of information
and services by retailers to aid this trend.
