January 20 & 27 Roam and Roast, Bodiam Castle


Bodiam Castle’s Roam and Roast days are the perfect way to blow away the winter cobwebs. The event combines a delicious two-course roast with a guided tour of the castle by a member of ‘The Bodiam Household’ in authentic medieval costume. For booking information call 01580 831325.


January 23 Floristry Workshop, Hadlow College, Tonbridge


Explore the different ways you can manipulate foliage and incorporate it into your floristry designs. During this half-day workshop you will learn three different techniques and be able to take away your work at the end. This is a popular course and early enrolment is advised. Course fee £40. January 25 Tour of Gravesend's Cold War Bunker


Hidden under Gravesend's Woodlands Park is a command post from the Cold War. You can now visit and experience the twilight world of a feared nuclear holocaust. The 13 rooms have been transformed and re-equipped as they were in the 1950s. To join this tour contact Gravesend Visitor Centre to book as space is limited.


January 26 BBC Stargazing live event, Mote Park, Maidstone


Mote Park in partnership with the Mid-Kent astronomical society will be hosting one of the largest Stargazing live events of the year. There will be an array of telescopes available for you to star gaze. (Weather permitting you will view Jupiter). There will be presentations, a children’s activity corner and an opportunity to visit one of the two


temporary planetariums with sound and light effects sending you on a journey through the stars. Starts at 6.30pm. Entry to this free event is via the Leisure Centre main entrance

February 1 - May 7 The 1953 Flood remembered, Herne Bay Museum and Gallery


On the night of January 31 1953, the sea at Herne Bay rose two metres above normal levels and wreaked havoc in the town. For the 60th anniversary of the Great East Coast Storm, Herne Bay people share their images and memories.


February 3 Elm Court Farmers Market, Hempstead, Medway


The market runs from 9.30am – 1.30pm at Elm Court Garden Centre, Capstone Road, Gillingham. Over 35 stalls sell a variety of produce, with scallops on offer in February. A free pitch is given to a charity each month. If you would like to take advantage of this call Steve Wood on 07876 685853.
