5 Call for resignation
Skelton Councillor Dave McLuckie was recently arrested by North Yorkshire police officers, Tom Blenkinsop, Labour MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, has called on him to “do the honourable thing and resign” as a councillor. Tom said: “Clearly this is a very serious matter
that must be dealt with and as in accord with our judicial system; Councillor McLuckie naturally remains innocent until proven guilty. “However, it is my fi rm belief that Cllr McLuckie
will struggle to effectively represent the people of Skelton as a councillor whilst he has to deal with these very serious allegations against him, especially when Operation Sacristy is continuing to investigate Cleveland Police Authority. He should therefore do the right thing, and resign for the sake of my constituents in Skelton. “I cannot see how it is at all feasible for him
or his constituents to represent or be properly represented with the sheer quantity of allegations piled at his door. The right thing to do for
ollowing the announcement that former chairman of Cleveland Police Authority,
everyone involved is surely for Cllr McLuckie to resign as a councillor until these matters are resolved.” Cllr McLuckie was suspended from the Labour Party when he was arrested in November as part of Operation Sacristy – an ongoing investigation into Cleveland Police Authority.

Borough Council is looking at a number of improvements in Marske and wants your views on the proposals. Following discussions with Cleveland Police
and other partners the Council is looking to install a new zebra crossing facility on The Wynd by relocating the current bus stop to a new location adjacent to the doctor’s surgery. The proposals also include a new road hump

and the removal of the existing uncontrolled crossing adjacent to the roundabout. To further assist in improving road safety there would also be new road humps at each of the other existing zebra crossings. It is envisaged that the humps will reduce vehicle speeds and further highlight the crossings to oncoming drivers. Ex Redcar & Cleveland Councillor and former Mayor Mike Findley MBE told Coastal View: “I’ve no problem with Redcar and Cleveland Council putting forward proposals to improve road safety in Marske, however the council has only sent consultation letters to people who live and work in The Wynd, High Street and Redcar Road, and I’ve been trying to put the case with the Council for a wider consultation amongst the community of Marske. “ I’m pleased that they have now decided to put something in the Marske Community Partnership (MCP) November Newsletter which is delivered to 4,000 households and I hope as many people as possible will contact the Council and asked
with the proposal to move the bus stop adjacent to the dentist in The Wynd to outside the doctor’s surgery on Windy Hill Lane. A team of local residents are going to do their own survey over the next few weeks to see if local people agree that the bus stop should be moved and a zebra crossing put in its place.” Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, Councillor Helen McLuckie, said: “Road safety is a top priority for us in Redcar and Cleveland, we have listened to residents’ concerns in this area and feel that the proposals we have put forward will really help to address the issues raised. “If anyone has any concerns over the proposed
changes or would like more information, I would recommend that they contact the Council before the closing date.” Marske councillor Tristan Leayroyd said: “Changes to Marske traffi c management were promised last year. It’s a shame that it has taken a fatality for Marske residents and councillors to be listened to.” If you would like to comment on the proposals please write to Engineering Section, Redcar and Cleveland House, Kirkleatham Street, Redcar, TS10 1RT or email engineering@redcar-
cleveland.gov.uk. The deadline for comments is 31st December 2012. ‘

Several councils have already done this and are using their own companies to provide functions such as catering, cleaning, fi nancial services, legal services and printing. Councillor Glyn Nightingale said: “I am very pleased that the Council is taking up the opportunities this Government has given them. “Recent internal and external audits of the Council’s fi nances have revealed poor economic management – I hope this will lead to a more business-like approach to spending money.”
