Coastal View & Moor News Issue 29 November - December 2012

Welcome to Coastal View & Moor News Issue 29

remembrance. Remembrance Day (or Poppy Day) is a memorial day observed since the end of the fi rst World War, to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. This year, Remembrance Day is on 11 November, which falls on Armistice day which marks the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. We have lost so many good men and women, not just during the two World Wars but more recently in Iraq and Afghanistan and Remembrance Day is a day for refl ection and to remember what these brave individuals do for us on a daily basis. Send us your pictures of your Remembrance

A

Day memories and we will look to publish some in the next issue of the newspaper. Christmas is only a matter of a few weeks away and already we have had a taste of the weather that this season brings. With the clocks changing it brings longer nights and

t the time of writing this people in our area are looking to attend services of

we have had lots of rain, it’s been very cold and we have even had snow in some areas, which reminds us that we must stay safe and warm and look out for our neighbours. There are many elderly people living alone amongst us and we must all make sure they too are safe and warm. It only takes a minute to pop in to see them, say hello and generally check they are OK and after all, this is just the neighbourly thing to do. Our ‘For our young people 50/50 campaign’ designed to get 50 young people into jobs or training, has really taken off, with prospective employers contacting us, job clubs set up and new partnerships formed. You can read more about this on pages 24/25 and we look forward to bringing you some local success stories in later issues. As mentioned earlier, Christmas celebrations will be taking place during the next few weeks and we will try to attend as many of them as possible, take some pictures and meet some of the wonderful people out there who do great things in their towns and villages. If you would like to send a Christmas message to family, friends, neighbours,
