Hall on the evening of the 8th October 2012. Over 80 residents attended the awards evening and members were delighted that so many turned out to take pride in the Parish of Loftus. The evening began with the presentation of

the Loftus and Villages in Bloom winners. As always the entrants were of a high standard and all gardens and displays were a credit to the community. Many entrants were able to attend the awards and collect certifi cates for the commended and highly commended gardens. The In Bloom awards were presented by Cllr Andrew Anderson, Chair of the Environment Committee and the winners are as follows:- Easington, Liverton Mines & Liverton
Village Winner - Victor Stephenson Runner up – Edith Porritt
The presentation of the annual citizen awards followed the In Bloom. There were so many outstanding nominations this year that all those nominated received a certifi cate in recognition of their good works. The winner of the Annual Citizen was Mr Vince Brown. Vince Brown

Brittany Byrnes • 13 years old and a young carer for her 14 year old sister who suffers greatly with uncontrolled epilepsy and learning disabilities.
• Never complains • Helps around the house • Continues to get excellent marks at school
His works includes amongst many things:- • Caretaker at St Joseph’s School, now retired but still helps out. • Visits the housebound of the parish • Assisted in preparing the Community Plan • Key player in restoring the Grotto. •Takes on many practical tasks within the parish The winner of the young citizen was Brittany Byrnes

• Loving and generous • Her Mum, Julee, states: “Brittany’s life may seem as though it is put on a back burner sometimes as a lot of attention is focussed in her sister, but her family want her to know she is just as important to them as her sister.” Loftus Town Council would like to thank everyone who took part in the Loftus and Villages In Bloom competition, nominated or was nominated for a citizen award or supported by attending the awards evening.
