Coastal View & Moor News Issue 29 November - December 2012 Big draw big success

These were hung up to dry in the gardens among the trees, making an interesting art installation for all to see. The gardens looked beautiful with the autumn sunshine glinting through the trees. Visitors strolled around collecting autumn leaves and twigs which they used to make collages and masks. Others took paper and pen to record their impressions. Freebrough say thank you to Hewdens

Service and Freebrough Academy re c ently invited representatives f r om Hewdens (plant machine hire specialists) to join them for refreshments to say thank you for the two ‘counselling cabins’ that they have kindly provided free of charge. The company has also provided two further cabins for use as an ‘off site’ facility for the Academy. This was a great opportunity for them to see how the Academy and counselling service are putting the extra space to good use. The project came about through a contact of Sandra Bell (Director of Time 4 You School Counselling Service who operates from the site.) Sandra said: “I had an idea that a portacabin would be a great ‘space’ for Time 4 You School Counselling Service, especially as our rooms in school were limited and the counselling service was growing. I discussed my idea with Linda Halbert, Academy Principal, and she agreed it would be fantastic if I could get one, though we didn’t have the money to buy our own. “That is when I remembered my days as a buyer at

Corus and my dealing with the plant hire company Hewdens and I contacted Mark Hieron, who had progressed to Managing Director. Mark and I met up and I explained all about Time 4 You and that I was now Director of a school based service at Freebrough and other schools in the Redcar and

Cleveland Area. I explained what I was hoping to achieve, which was an ‘off site’ facility for school counselling, where young people could be seen in a confi dential setting but be separate to the school. “Mark explained about Hewdens corporate social responsibility as a company, and said he would be delighted to provide a fully furnished cabin for the counselling service. “Is there anything else you want Sandra” he said. “Can I have two?” I replied and the rest is history. “Following the installation of the cabins, again

all provided for completely free of charge, I then explained to Mark about the need for a Freebrough ‘off-site’ provision to facilitate small group learning. Mark and his Chief Executive Offi cer Kevin Parkes, authorised the commissioning of two further cabins fully equipped and free of charge for this purpose. We are absolutely delighted with the generosity of this company and what it has done for the school counselling service and the Academy.”
