currently estimated to be £377m - from the London Olympic Games be used to secure an ‘Olympic Legacy’ on Teesside. Tom said: “It is vital that the opportunity to secure an Olympic Legacy on Teesside is not lost and even a fraction of this money could go a long way to establish one. Other than the enjoyment and a huge sense of pride, it is hard to really tell what Teesside has gained from the Olympics, whilst London is reaping the rewards. “It is a well-established fact that local

Government’s austerity drive and they have been tasked with diffi cult decisions on how to handle those cuts. Unfortunately, this has provided a very real danger to the future of swimming pools and leisure centres across Teesside. The most striking example of the impact of these cuts is the loss of Clairville Stadium in Middlesbrough last year. “The Government must ensure that the
benefi ts of the Olympics leave a wide-ranging impression across the whole nation. The impact of providing funding to guarantee the future of these leisure centres would have a monumental impact across a spectrum of society including in sports participation and on strained council budgets a-like.”
