Combining quaint village settings with the seaside atmosphere of Nantucket - add to it a host of first-rate hotels, motels, inns and B&Bs; attractions and amenities galore; five state parks, 11 lighthouses, a laudable performing and visual arts pres- ence; restaurants and even more restau- rants - it all translates to the keys that open Wisconsin’s seaside sleeper of a destina- tion: Door County.

There, do you see that finger of land jut- ting out just north of the city of Green Bay? Now, zoom in. Closer. The swath of terrain is framed by 300 miles of coastline offering the very best land activities the state has to offer, and lakefront aquatic ones, too.
For me, it is all about the cheese. “America’s Dairy Land” produces some of the finest cow and goat’s milk products on the planet - a cheddar-y, Swiss and Bleu- lover’s dream come true.
What you won’t find on Google Maps, though, are the people who populate this verdant region. What is said about Wisconsin-ers is true: Some of the nicest people live here, and few places are as legitimately welcoming and open as Door County.
