In addition, Kimpton’s EarthCare program ensures that all meetings held here are earth-friendly; the first hotel company to unroll mandatory eco-friendly practices nationwide. Among the eco-friendly prac- tices mandatory for every event are: U.S.- sourced bottled water; water served in pitchers with reusable glassware; sales collateral, meeting notepads, and coast- ers made of 100 percent recycled paper; napkins that are cloth or recycled paper; paperless services, like electronic distri- bution of sales proposals, catering menus and banquet event orders; plus several other initiatives.
Now under construction at 12th and Arch streets, and adjacent to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, is the Hilton Home2 Suites hotel slated for a summer 2013 opening. The hotel will feature more than 2,000-square feet of meeting space, 246 guest rooms, plus 750-square feet for ground floor retail and restaurants.
In the spring, construction is scheduled to begin on a 500-room W Hotel in Center City, which will offer a conference center and numerous amenities. The hotel is expected to be completed in early 2015.
True to its name, The Hub is a collection of unique, hyper-collaborative meeting environments optimized for today’s ever- mobile business professionals. The Hub Commerce Square outpost centers on an idea that has long driven the Hub’s meet- ing planning service: Meet. Collaborate. Grow. Following a six-month, multi-million dollar renovation earlier in 2012, the space is divided into three areas that reflect these progressive phases of the big-picture meeting and event process, and are color-coded and outfitted with visual cues for easy navigation.
The Hub Commerce Square’s Meet wing, which is marked in orange, is home to effi- cient workspace and can house groups from two to 200. Its six distinct rooms draw inspiration from famed meeting locations, among them: Geneva, Oslo, Kyoto, and Indie (short for Philadelphia’s very own Independence Hall).
