Cordia has invited members of the public to tie the knot in one of Scotland’s most historic buildings. For the first time in its near


125-year history, Glaswegians and visitors to the Dear Green Place can now host their civil ceremonies in the City Chambers, a venue that has played host to the Queen,


countless prime ministers, stellar celebrities and numerous heads of state from across the globe. Built over six years by


Glasgow-based architect William Young, and opened in 1888 by Queen Victoria, the venue can now host civil ceremonies of all sizes and can offer couples the added touch of occasion and grandeur. Te city’s civic leader, Lord


Provost Sadie Docherty, said: “Tis is a wonderful opportunity for couples and I can’t think of a more beautiful building in Glasgow in which to hold your special day. “A big atraction for this venue


will also be the opportunity to have Europe’s largest marble staircase as the backdrop for wedding pictures and providing a very special reminder of the day for many years to come.”


Five stars for Riverside Museum


The Riverside Museum, has been awarded five stars by VisitScotland in its prestigious ranking selection. Highly regarded in the leisure


industry, the ratings system is made up after attractions are visited secretly each year and rated on


criteria such as catering, retail and toilets. Previous venues to be


accredited are the Glasgow Science Centre, the Hampden Experience and Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

Rise for hotel


bookings Hospitality Glasgow has seen a 200 per cent spike in hotel bookings in the past four years, reaffirming its position as second only to London as the top shopping destination in the UK. According to discount hotel specialist LateRooms.com, Glasgow received more hotel bookings than Barcelona and Rome in recent months, beating the likes of Paris and Geneva in the price stake, offering cheaper average room rates. Furthermore, the city


achieved its highest hotel occupancy rate since records began, with 96 per cent of rooms occupied on the night the US Olympic women’s football team played their first game at Hampden Park. TripAdvisor recently named


Glasgow as the best value Scottish city in which to spend a bank holiday break, beating Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness in a new table of the most popular places in the UK for a short break.
