Business visits to help Council leader focus support efforts

Fact finding Glasgow Chamber of Commerce is facilitating a business visit programme for Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council. The visits will take place over the coming

months and the focus is to enable Councillor Matheson to experience Glasgow businesses and their business operations, including success stories

and issues faced. Councillor Matheson will also use the visits as an opportunity to meet staff and to discuss any actions that could be taken from a city perspective to support business. Chamber Chief Executive Stuart Patrick will accompany Councillor Matheson on the visits. The first of the visits took place in September where Councillor Matheson met Chamber

President Varry McMenemy at Bellcom Worldwide’s headquarters on Waterloo Street, Glasgow.

An immediate priority is to help shape the engagement of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce with Glasgow City Council in identifying business priorities for the future development of the city centre in the next city centre strategy. Areas of focus identified include: • access to the city centre • promotion of the city centre

• enhancing the visitor experience • maintenance of the city centre • contributing to the long-term sustainability of the city centre

• raising the profile of city centre retail among key stakeholders at a local and national level. The city centre retail association is chaired by
