HUNTER TRIALS AND TEAM CHASE FOR EQUESTRIANS
Preparations are already underway for the annual hunter trials in the beautiful parklands of Bignell Park at Chesterton near Bicester on 15th April, by kind permission of Mr & Mrs C Lane Fox. Organised by the Bicester and Warden Hill Pony Club, the competition is open to all. It has special prizes in the Pairs Classes, including Best Family Pair and Youngest Pair. The trials offer a rare opportunity to ride across beautiful private
parkland and woods, as the Bicester and Warden Hill Pony Club is privileged to be the host of the only event granted permission to use this venue. Organiser Alison Smith said “We hope to make the course
challenging enough with a few questions and some easier alternatives, so that everyone can go home happy and fulfilled”. For more information and a copy of the schedule contact Alison Smith at barebacklaundry@

FARNBOROUGH LAKE BY MOONLIGHT
‘AWKWARD’, A PRODUCTION BY ‘PEPPERED WIT’ PRODUCTIONS AT THE MILL THEATRE
Banbury’s newest and perhaps most controversial theatre production company took to the stage with their first ever performance of ‘Awkward’, a play by Richard Oliver, at The Mill Theatre last
month. The play tackled the extremely difficult subject of incest in a modern way that shocked the Banbury audience. Performed on one set, taking just over an hour to run through, the play was always going to grab the attention. Starting in a light hearted manner, actors Steve Procopiou (Greg) Rob Hall (Nathan) Tara Lacey (Matilda) and Becs Calverly (Lola) lulled the audience into a false sense of security. The opening sequences were easy for the audience to deal with although Greg’s scripted swearing was a bit lightweight considering what was to come!
This super picture by Four Shires walks man Peter Jones, was taken last weekend at Farnborough Lake just outside the village. The super effect has been added to the picture using an infra-red filter giving the impression the image was taken with infra red film. In the past when a photographer used infra red film, he had to load the camera in darkness and adjust the focus of the camera as the wavelength of infra red light is a little different to visible light! Not only that, but the film had to be processed in steel drums as the plastic spirals if warm, would ‘fog’ the film! Peter’s picture perfectly matches the infra red look... well done!
There were two very funny scenes featuring Baz. The rushed coupling with Lola atop a pizza box and the duel featuring garish sex aids were very well played and most of the audience seemed very tickled! The crux of the play, the discovery that Greg was sleeping with his sister Matilda, was approached in an odd manner - the play seemed to stumble a little at this point - although once into the scene Steve and Tara played it with admirable conviction. Overhearing the confessions of Greg and Matilda, Baz, Nathan and Lola react with predicted venom, Rob Hall being particularly convincing. Once the dreaded revelation was out in the open, the play continued to surprise right up to the finale with a stroboscopic murder scene being played out brilliantly well.
Writer Richard Oliver was very brave to tackle such a taboo subject but managed to illustrate the dreadful situation so well through his team.
This promising group of young actors, writers, directors and production wizards put forward a strong debut performace that can only build to give a fabulous presentation when they go on tour, taking ‘Awkward’ to the world famous Fringe fesival in Edinburgh later in the year.
