FOUR SHIRES v HOMES & INTERIORS
HISTORICAL
cottage FOR SALE
Fisher German have recently launched an interesting historical cottage at Newnham onto the market.
The Cottage was originally farmer worker’s cottages of a one-up one-down nature, probably constructed in the early 18th century. These were owned by a Mr John Key who lived at Church Farm which is located to the south side of the green. In 1797 Mr Key re-designed The Cottage and the adjoining cottage known as Key Cottage to form five dwellings, presumably for employees on his estate.
In 1855 the son and heir of Church Farm returned home from London and asked his mother and aunt to vacate Church Farm. He converted the 3 farm worker’s cottages into one larger house which is the property now seen on site. The Cottage thus contains many Victorian features.
The conservatory was added in about 1870 and had an interesting heating system where by a channel ran underneath the floor and was linked to a fire pit positioned outside the room. The Key family retained the Cottage until the early 1970s.
The property is Listed Grade II being of historical and/or architectural interest. It is to be marketed by Fisher German at a guide price of £550,000. Currently it consists of a gracious reception hall, well proportioned sitting and dining rooms, study leading onto the conservatory, with a kitchen and utility, plus a cloakroom making up the ground floor. On the first floor there is a master bedroom with en-suite shower, with 3 further well proportioned bedrooms.
A further shower room can be used in the ‘Jack and Jill’ fashion either as an en-suite or to serve bedrooms throughout the property. The house is in good decorative order and provides ideal accommodation for a family.
The house sits at the southern end of Church Street with views of the Parish Church to the east. There is an attractive garden with workshop, two greenhouses, a decked area, vegetable garden, chicken run and borders.
