Grand River Pony Clubber travels down under for Mounted Games Exchange
This spring, Kirsten Radcliffe, member of Grand River Pony Club in Western Ontario Region, will represent Team Canada at the International Mounted Games Exchange (IMGE) in Australia. The exchange is held every year and rotates between Canada, Aus- tralia, Great Britain and the U.S.
Kirsten, age 15, has been riding for 10 years and competes in show jumping, eventing and mounted games. She’s been a member of Grand River Pony Club for the past eight years. Other Team Canada members include Megan Dick and Kearstyn Sabourin from Alberta North, Taylor Vick from Alberta Central and Emma Wiebe from BC Lower Mainland. this year’s team and Barb Robinson from Guelph will attend as chaperone.
To qualify for the team, Pony Club mem- bers from across Canada attended tryouts in Guelph last September. Athletes participated in three days of tryouts and had to demonstrate their
vaulting skills and abili- ty to ride all the differ- ent games on ponies of different heights and temperaments.
“It was really fun to meet Pony Club mem- bers from across the country, I’m so excited to be on the IMGE team travelling to Australia in April,” Kirsten said. “Pony Club is full of wonderful opportunities for members to travel all over the world and com- pete with other riders from various back- grounds.”

games are variations of a relay race, requiring riders to vault on and off their ponies, run slalom courses and hand off props. Riders develop strong skills that help them compete in all other areas of equine sport, including timing, coordination, balance, agility and teamwork. International com- petitions typically last one to two weeks to give participants a chance to do more than just com- pete. These exchanges offer opportunities to experience different cul- tures and riding styles from around the world, forging friendships and experiences that last a lifetime.
The 2012 show sea- son will be packed with other events and compe- titions, including dres- sage and showjumping, weekend-long rallies and numerous branch competitions, clinics and events. Members from each region will have the chance to compete nationally in the follow- ing upcoming competi- tions:
• National Quiz, West- ern Ontario
• National Show Jump- ing, St. Lawrence Ottawa Valley
• National Dressage, British Columbia Lower Mainland
• National Rally, West- ern Ontario
• National PPG Masters, Alberta
The Canadian Pony Club is proud to be part of an international orga- nization promoting equestrian knowledge, skill and youth ambas- sadorship throughout the world as well as country wide in our own back- yards. In 2010, Canadi- an Pony Club was offi- cially inducted into the Jump Canada Hall of Fame as a builder orga- nization. This award recognizes an organiza- tion that has demonstrat- ed excellence in leader- ship and commitment to equestrian sport. The Jump Canada Hall of Fame was created in 2006 to recognize out- standing contributions to hunter/jumper sport. To date, 31 champions have been welcomed into the Hall of Fame.
Currently Canada is home to 150 branches with a membership of 3,500. For more infor- mation and to find your closest branch, visit:
